Old Village General Pizza to Close After Lease Ends in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Old Village General Pizza, the neighborhood shop at 689 N. Mill St. in Plymouth, is headed for a closing after the owner was told the lease on the building will not be renewed.

The shop has operated for about two years inside an old house dating to the 1900s, with part of the home renovated into the store after the owner signed a two-year lease. Long-running tension between tenant and landlord boiled over following a Halloween concert held outside the shop, when people at the show strung toilet paper through the branches of nearby trees. For the landlord’s part, ending the lease was described as not a knee-jerk reaction. No closing date has been announced.

The Old Village store mixed a corner-market feel with a short restaurant menu. Its menu ran from pizza and Italian sandwiches to Guernsey soft serve ice cream, and shelves carried beer, wine, some grocery items and gifts from local artists. Along with counter service, a side walk-up window served an outdoor area set up with picnic tables, cornhole and string lights.
