PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Plymouth Township landmark on Plymouth Road that sat empty for about 10 years has a new life as a self-storage business, with more than 300 rental units now inside the 78-year-old Durr Building.
The 40,000-square-foot structure at 40700 Plymouth Road is operating as Durr Storage after two years of work by a pair of local real estate agents. The business began a soft opening in August.
Renovations brought a covered area by the east entrance, fresh parking lots and new landscaping. A separate lot east of the building lets customers keep RVs and similar oversized vehicles there for a monthly charge, and the original front lobby was kept as a place for meetings.
The company markets a Touchless Rentals system and posts size-guide videos to help renters pick a unit, billing itself as local, affordable storage in Plymouth. Units rent month by month, and a current promotion knocks 50% off the first three months.
Much of the interior rebuild, including a second floor that once held cubicles and conference rooms, was handled by LaSant Building of Salem Township.
