PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Friday, Oct. 30, is the final day for City of Plymouth voters to ask for an absentee ballot by mail, and the clerk will not send any ballots out after 5 p.m.
Anyone who needs a signature problem fixed before a ballot can be mailed has an earlier cutoff, 4 p.m. Friday. Voters who already have a ballot at home are being urged to skip the post office this close to the Tuesday, Nov. 3 election and use one of the two drop boxes outside the municipal building at 201 S. Main St. instead. The city says it cannot promise that a ballot mailed in the final week will arrive on time.
That timing matters because, under state rules, a mailed absentee ballot that reaches the clerk after 8 p.m. on Election Day is not counted. Military and overseas voters have a short grace period.
On Saturday, Oct. 31, the clerk will be at City Hall between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. to issue and take back absentee ballots. In-person early voting goes on through Sunday, Nov. 1, daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 525 Farmer St., home of the Plymouth Cultural Center. On Election Day, the polls there run from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Unregistered residents are not shut out. Bring proof of a city address to the clerk, and you can register and cast a ballot on the spot until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
