Plymouth, Michigan got the statewide result Saturday: Michigan lost to Minnesota 20-14. Michigan lost to Minnesota 20-14 on Saturday, Oct. 3, in Minneapolis, in the Wolverines’ first road game of the season.

Minnesota took the Little Brown Jug. Michigan is 3-2 and 0-2 in the Big Ten after also losing to Iowa the week before in its conference opener.

The offense never found a rhythm. Michigan finished with 180 yards of total offense and 79 rushing yards, its lowest rushing total of the season. Bryce Underwood threw two interceptions, and Andrew Marsh muffed a punt. Turnovers, penalties, and special teams each cost Michigan.

Nathaniel Staehling scored on an interception return in the first half. Minnesota scored after halftime and held on for the 20-14 win.

Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham said the offense is far from where it needs to be. He said the staff will use the coming bye week to examine those problems, including the work of offensive coordinator Jason Beck. Michigan has seven games left. The Wolverines are off next week and host Penn State on Oct. 17.
