Where Plymouth Residents Can Drop Off Old Prescriptions

Empty council chamber with long tables

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Plymouth residents with expired or unused prescription pills have a free place to get rid of them close to home, and a wider regional collection is set for this weekend as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Inside City Hall at 201 S. Main St., a locked drug box on the ground level is available year-round. Drop-offs are taken Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Because the box stays locked, people need to stop at the police counter to hand over their medicine.

The city takes pills only. They have to come out of their bottles and go into plastic bags, or arrive in blister packs. The city will not take inhalers, creams, needles or liquid medicine, and questions go to the City of Plymouth Police Department.

For the national event, Corewell Health will accept medicine at no charge Friday, Oct. 23, at its hospitals in Wayne, Taylor and Trenton, then Saturday, Oct. 24, in Royal Oak and Sterling Heights, running four hours each day starting at 10 a.m. All 31 Michigan State Police posts will also take pills that Saturday over the same window.

More than 4,400 sites nationwide are expected to take part. The spring collection in April brought in 642,410 pounds of medication.
