PLYMOUTH, Mich. — A scarecrow modeled on Dr. Frank-N-Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show is standing again in Kellogg Park after the original was stolen, and its backers plan to celebrate its return with a walk around downtown Plymouth on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The figure is one of nearly 100 scarecrows on exhibit in the park as part of the annual fall display sponsored by the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce. Plymouth Canton PFLAG, an LGBTQ advocacy group, entered it as a tribute to the character and to the late actor Tim Curry.
The display drew complaints earlier this month, and chamber representatives suggested it be partly covered with a surgical gown. The group decided to leave it as built. Days later the life-size figure disappeared, and the Plymouth Police Department says it is investigating the theft.
Artist Patrick Cox and his daughter quickly built a replacement, helped by residents who donated materials. The new version is back in its spot in the park.
Supporters will gather at the scarecrow at 6 p.m. Saturday, walk a loop along Main Street and return to the park for a dance. The scarecrows remain on display in Kellogg Park through Nov. 2.
