Plymouth Police Tips for 911 Calls, Online Reports and Tickets

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Plymouth police want residents to call right away about suspicious people or activity, and they have published a guide to what happens when you call.

A 911 call from a home or business in the city goes straight to the police dispatch center. A cellphone call may reach the Michigan State Police first, and the call is then transferred to the right local department.

The dispatcher will ask whether it is an emergency, what is happening, where it is happening, and for a description of any suspect, victim or vehicle and which way they went. For serious calls, the operator may keep you on the phone while sending help.

When describing a person, police suggest noting age, height, weight and build, hair, eye color and glasses, clothing and colors, any scars or marks, how the person talks and which way the person left, whether on foot, on a bike or in a vehicle.

Officers take complaints and reports at any hour, every day. After hours, a phone in the City Hall vestibule connects visitors to dispatch. Some requests do not need a visit at all: overnight parking, vacation house checks and some incidents can be handled online, and residents can upload digital evidence.

Traffic tickets cannot be paid at the police station. They are paid online, by mail or at the 35th District Court, which has a drop box for payments after hours. The court also offers online payment and record checks.
