Moonshot AI has announced the release of Kimi K3, a new artificial intelligence model featuring a substantial 2.8 trillion parameters. This development positions the model to tackle complex tasks requiring advanced reasoning and extended coding projects.
Central to Kimi K3’s capabilities is its one-million-token context window, a significant increase that allows it to process and retain information over much longer sequences. This feature is designed to enhance performance in knowledge-work applications and intricate coding scenarios. The model also incorporates native visual understanding capabilities, alongside internal architectural innovations referred to as Kimi Delta Attention and Attention Residuals, which aim to improve its processing efficiency and effectiveness.
Independent benchmark summaries suggest Kimi K3 performs competitively with leading frontier models, particularly in tasks involving long-horizon processing and the development of user interfaces. However, these assessments also note that operating such a large model locally necessitates considerable computing resources.
The company has indicated that the full model weights are scheduled for release on July 27. In the interim, access to Kimi K3 is already available through existing Kimi services and API routes.
The pricing structure for Kimi K3 has been detailed, with input tokens costing $3 per million and output tokens priced at $15 per million. Cached input tokens are available at a rate of $0.30 per million.
The launch of Kimi K3 precedes the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai and arrives amid a broader trend of large open-model releases originating from China. This release contributes to the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence development and accessibility.
