Jean West Henson, a beloved member of her community, passed away at the age of 86 on May 21, 2025, in Dublin, Ohio. Her family and friends remember her life filled with love, passion for gardening, and devotion to her family.
Born on July 25, 1938, in Wakefield, Ohio, Jean was the fourth daughter of Eddie and Maggie West. After graduating from The Ohio State University in 1960, Jean met her future husband, Frank Henson. They married on June 11, 1961, and shared a loving partnership for many years.
Jean is survived by her three children: Dennis Henson and his wife Sheryl of Kalamazoo, MI; Ann Arnold and her husband Brad of Dublin, OH; and Daniel Henson of Columbus, OH. Her family grew to include two granddaughters, Allison Prough of Plymouth, MI, and Melanie Arnold of Columbus, OH, as well as a great-grandson, Cooper Prough. Additionally, Jean is remembered by her brother, Teddy West of Wakefield, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and sisters and brothers-in-law: Lois Williams and her husband Gordon; Lillian Smith and her husband Verlin; Maxine Danford and her husband Leonard; Carol Wheeler and her husband Chuck John; and Pam Williams and her husband Ron.
A lifelong lover of nature, Jean developed a particular passion for beautiful flowers, gardens, and the joys of the natural world. She found great pleasure in watching bright red sunsets and full moons and had a special fondness for her family and the music of Elvis Presley. Her interest in gardening flourished during her time volunteering at Inniswood Metro Garden, where she honed her skills in container flower gardening.
A Memorial Service to honor Jean’s life is scheduled for May 30, 2025, at Ferguson Funeral Home in Plain City, Ohio. The service will begin at noon, following a visitation starting at 11 a.m. Friends and family members are invited to pay their respects and celebrate her life. After the service, interment will take place later at the Pathway to the Son Memorial Garden at Liberty Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jean’s memory to Inniswood Volunteers Inc, located in Westerville, Ohio, a fitting tribute to her love of nature and gardening.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care provided to Jean during her later years at Dublin Retirement Village Memory Support and by Capitol City Hospice. Their support allowed her to live with dignity and comfort amid her health challenges.
Jean West Henson will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the community that she touched throughout her beautiful life. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved her and in the gardens she cherished.
