His professional achievements were complemented by a key role in his community, particularly in the church where he held positions as an elder and trustee at the First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak.

James served his country honorably as a First Lieutenant during the Korean Police Action, contributing to the efforts of the United States military during a critical period in history. His commitment was also reflected in his personal life; he married Louise Cutshall on April 2, 1970, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Detroit, with whom he shared many years of companionship.

A memorial service is scheduled to take place in his honor on June 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM. The service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak, located at 529 Hendrie Boulevard. Friends and family are invited to attend to pay their respects and celebrate James’s life.
